Stop for lunch buffet in Urubamba, and then explore the Inca city of Ollantaytambo (the only people who kept the customs of the Incas) and its archaeological center. In the afternoon, we will take the train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo. After a night in a Hotel, we will start the tour the next day with a magic sunset in the city of Machu Picchu. After a day exploring the whole area of Machu Picchu, we will end the day, returning to Ollantaytambo and then to the city of Cusco.

At Pisac you can see magnificent Inca remains, the ancient architecture and engineering of the Inca temples is breathtaking and will sweep you off your feet. Our guided tour of Pisac lasts about 2 hours before we head back to the valley to visit the most colorful and traditional local market in Cusco and where you can buy traditional textiles at low prices. After our visit to the market our sightseeing continues as we drive along the beautiful Sacred Valley, this area was the breadbasket of the Incas and still produces large amounts of corn on the Inca terraces. Our next destination is Urubamba which we´ll arrive to at approximately 13:00pm to enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants. From Urubamba it´s just 30 minutes to get to the last Inca ruins known as Ollantaytambo (Inca palace). This ruin was built with pink granite rocks and is another impressive example of Inca craftsmanship. Here you can see the second biggest rock from the Inca times (90 tons) which was used as part of the Temple of the Sun. After your tour you have extra time to wander around the site. Then you will head to the train station which is 15 minutes by foot, your train will depart at 4.36 pm to Aguas Calientes, and is a 2 hour journey. The train ride is breathtaking with very comfortable seats. During the trip, you will see many glaciers and snow-capped peaks, lush, green valleys and Incan farming terraces on both sites of the valley. When you arrive in Aguas Calientes (2000m/6000ft above sea level), the town for Machu Picchu, and our representative will meet you just outside the train station (and before the market) and take you to your hotel. At night at 7.00 pm you will have your briefing with your guide at hotel reception where your guide will give you all the details for your visit to Machu Picchu.

After an early breakfast at your hotel you will take the bus which takes 25 minutes up a switchback road to get to Machu Picchu. Buses start at 5:30am and run as a shuttle, as soon as they get full, the go). If you don’t care to take the bus and prefer to hike along the Inca trail just let your guide know so that he can show you the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu which will take about 1 hour 30 minutes.

Once in Machu Picchu Park, you will have a 2 hour private guided tour. Where you will visit the different main places of this Inca city such as the Main Square, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sundial (Intihuatana “Place where the sun is tied”), the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and the cemeteries. At the end of the tour you will have free time to explore the ruins on your own. If you have booked a permit to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain from where you can see panoramic views of the entire Inca city of Machu Picchu. That will be your next adventure. Also you can opt to visit The Sun Gate is a 1 hour climb (and is free and available to all) which is also great to get those postcard pictures of the ruins from way above. More later you can take your lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge, Another option is return to Aguas Calientes for take your lunch at one of the local restaurants. (Lunch is on your own).

The usual train departure time is in the afternoon to return to Ollantaytambo (present oneself at the station 30 minutes before departure time of your train chosen), where we will be waiting to take you to Cusco and then to your hotel in our private transport.

Climbing to the Sun Gate is always available at no cost.  This is also an easy way to climb to a high spot with lovely views of Machu Picchu below.

If you prefer to climb Huayna Picchu with its dramatic views, this needs to be booked in advance and is $25 per person.  It takes 45 minutes to the top and is quite challenging.  The other option is to climb Machu Picchu Mountain which is 90 minutes straight up, very challenging and $15 per person.  This is probably the most beautiful and dramatic of all views, but all three options are lovely and will result in amazing photos.
