One of our most popular rafting sections during the season is the Cusipata section, in the upper part of the river. This section is one of the nicest rivers of the Urubamba for rafting activities, as it is less crowded, tranquil and cleaner than the Ollantaytambo part in the Sacred Valley. It consists of rapids that are graded II, III, and IV plus. Overall, you will be running the water for about 2 and a half hours, with some parts for relaxing and soaking up the experience, and other parts for pumping up your adrenaline levels.
Departure: 9:00 a.m.
Return: 5:30 p.m.
River grading: II, III and IV
Distance travelled in the water: 18 km
Time in the water: 2.5 hours
Peak Season: May to December
Daily Departures: From 09:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
We will collect you from your hotel and then we will drive 2 hours our private transport into a beautiful and very scenic views of lakes, villages and towns in the way to Urcos and Cusipata. Once we get there, you will have time to change into river rafting clothes, you will find a wetsuit that will fit you. Afterwards, you pick a helmet, a life-jacket and a paddle.
Once you are ready, your guides will offer a field briefing of all the details you need to successfully navigate the rapids. If your group is less than 4 people, you will have to join another group to complete the minimum group size requested for each raft.
You and your group will pull the raft to the river where you will learn the commands. Once on the raft and far from the shore, the real fun will start. The river is smooth in the beginning, giving you the chance to practice the commands when the guide tells you, but don’t worry, the rapids will come soon. When you feel like the river is getting rougher, it’s time to paddle. Suddenly the rapids pop up, and you will begin paddling. Be prepared to get soaked, even if you don’t fall out of the raft! Water splashes everywhere, and it’s cold! You will be glad that you are wearing the wetsuit and a wind cutter.
It is very important to follow the guide´s instructions and paddle seriously along with the commands in order to keep a good balance of the boat. After various rapids, the river calms down for a while, giving you the chance to rest for a little while until the next rapids come. After two hours and an half, your ride is about at an end, and your guide will get you to the shore. After the adventure activity, we will return to our camp in our private transport for that you can to dry off and change from you wetsuit into warm clothing. Then you will have a delicious lunch. And, if you still have energy, you will be able to do some Zip-lining! Finally, you can enjoy a good nap on the ride back to Cusco, where we will be arriving at around 5:30 -6:00 p.m.
