Itinerary

DAY 1:  ARRIVAL TO CUSCO AND CITY TOUR

When you will arrive to Cusco, we will be waiting for you at the airport in Cusco, to transfer to your Hotel.

In the afternoon you will have the City Tour, visiting the Main Square, the Cathedral, Koricancha Temple and the nearly archaeological sites of Qenko, Tambomachay, Puca Pucara and the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman. Finally the tour will end around 6 pm back at your hotel.

DAY 2:  SACRED VALLEY TOUR

After the breakfast, we will pick you up at your hotel at 8am, to take a full day excursion to the “Sacred Valley of the Incas”, visiting the archaeological site of Pisac with its incredible farming terraces carved into the mountain, and its colorful market.

At noon we will go to Urubamba, where we will have a buffet lunch at a tourist restaurant, and after a short break, we will continue the journey to Ollantaytanto Fortress, enormous administrative, agricultural, civil, military and religious complex, time Tawantinsuyo. After your tour you have extra time to wander around the site. Then you will head to the train station which is 15 minutes by foot, your train will depart at 4.36 pm or 7.00 pm to Aguas Calientes, and is a 2 hour journey. The train ride is breathtaking with very comfortable seats. When you arrive in Aguas Calientes (2000m/6000ft above sea level). Our representative will meet you just outside the train station (and before the market) and take you to your hotel. At night at 7.00 pm you will have your briefing with your guide at hotel reception where your guide will give you all the details for your visit to Machu Picchu.

DAY 3:  MACHUPICCHU TOUR… Enjoying the sunrise at the top of the mountain…!

After an early breakfast at your hotel, we will take the bus which takes 25 minutes up a switchback road to get to Sanctuary Machu Picchu. Once in Machu Picchu Park, you will have a 2 hour private guided tour. Where you will visit the different main places of this Inca city such as the Main Square, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sundial (Intihuatana “Place where the sun is tied”), the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and the cemeteries. At the end of the guided tour you will have free time to explore the ruins on your own. If you have booked the permit to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain from where you can take panoramic views of the entire Inca city of Machu Picchu. That will be your next adventure. Later around at 13:00, you can take the bus to down to Aguas Calientes town, where you can have your lunch at one of several restaurants (This Lunch is on your own).

The usual train departure time is in the afternoon to return to Ollantaytambo (present oneself at the station 30 minutes before departure time of your train chosen), where we will be waiting to take you to Cusco and then to your hotel in our private transport.

DAY 4: MORAY AND SALT MINES + CHINCHERO TOUR

We will pick you up at 8.00AM from your hotel in your private transportation and take you to visit the Salineras of Maras, a huge salt mine which was used in the pre-colonial times. You will be able to see more than 3000 evaporation chambers/salt pools which they still use to process the salt and provide for the entire Cusco region. Once you are done with Maras, you will visit Moray Inca ruins and the amazing Inca Laboratory filled with so many terraces. This is where they learned about the different microclimates of the region, as from the bottom to the top the temperature varies and they developed many different strains of produce here. Later on you will visit Chincheros and get to visit an amazing textile center with alpaca and llama-wool handmade textiles and they will show you how they weave them. This town also offers some amazing Inca ruins that were used to farm different types of potatoes. You will end the tour with a visit to a Catholic church which was built on top of the Palace of the Incas. You will be driven back to Cusco and transferred back to Hotel.

DAY 5:  RETURN TO LIMA

It could be either: Hotel Casa Andina, Hotel la Cabaña, Hotel Flower’s House, Hotel Muyurina or Royal Inti Inn, which will depend of their availability. They all include private rooms, hot showers, private bathrooms, TV cable, towels, soaps, breakfasts, Wi-Fi, and storage. Of course these hotels can be upgraded to another hotel like Inka Terra, Hotel Hatun Inti classic, Sumaq Machupicchu, or Santury logde. We will send an e-mail you the hotel name with your confirmation.

*****IMPORTANT NOTES *****

STUDENTS: If you booked your tour with your International Student Identity Card (ISIC) you must have this card and it must be valid for you to enter Machu Picchu.  If you purchased a permit with the student discount and you do not bring your ISIC card or it is not valid at the time of your entrance, they will not allow you in this is National Park rules.

HUAYNA PICCHU: Only 400 people are allowed to climb this mountain per day. It needs to be booked in advanced and the price is $25 per person. It is about a 90 minute round-trip climb. It is recommended that you climb Huayna Picchu in the 10-11am time slot as otherwise you miss your guided tour. We recommend booking about 2 months in advance to secure your permit as it is very popular and they do sell out well in advance.

MACHU PICCHU + MONTAIN: You may also opt to climb Machu Picchu Mountain which is more difficult than Huayna Picchu and is 3-3½ hours round trip. The cost is $15 and also requires a permit in advance. Just let us know if you want to book this option.

RETURN TRAIN TO CUSCO: The return train is the Expedition train or the Executive or Economy class train which departs either at 2:55, 4:12, 4:42 or 6:40 PM. The train that is booked depends on availability and is confirmed at your briefing. There is an option to upgrade your train to the Vistadome train which is an extra $50 per person round-trip. Please tell us of your preference at the time of booking. None of the trains go straight to Cusco, they only run either to Ollantaytambo or Poroy but in either case we will transfer you back by bus to your hotel (2 hours from Ollantaytambo and 25 minutes from Poroy).
