The Ballestas Islands are some islands in the Pacific Ocean, near the coast of Peru.
They are located 260 km south of Lima, near the town of Paracas in the province of Pisco.
Disembarkation of tourists on these islands is not allowed, to avoid disturbing the animals that live there, but the boats are close enough so that they can enjoy the beauty of these animals. The abundant life that exists in the Bay of Paracas and the islands is made possible by the cold Humboldt current.
The Humboldt Current is the water that fills the Ballestas Islands plankton and microorganisms, further enriching the sea with shoals of fish like sole, cojinovas, croakers, toyos and anchovies.
Humboldt penguins live in the desert coasts of Peru and Chile, another name given to these penguins is Bird Child, anchovy and mackerel eat and live up to 20 years. They have 2 chicks per year and incubate the egg 40 days. They make their nests on the ground digging, or deposited in guano.
Thousands of sea birds flying between the Ballestas Islands and can even be seen nesting on the rocks, among them are the pelican, condor, boobies, flamingos, etc.
Sea lions probably closer to the boat and many penguins are in the hills and in the water.
Sea lions stationed on the beaches of rocks hitting the waves fight fiercely to maintain the hegemony of his harem, usually composed of 12 females. Dolphins often visit the waters around the Ballestas Islands.
Duration: 03 hours
7:45 a.m. Pick up you from your hotel and then be transferred to craft Chaco dock where you take a boat slider to the Paracas reserve. During our tour we will stop to see the enigmatic figure of the chandelier, a stunning design traced on the slope of a hill in the Bay of Paracas.
Nobody knows for sure who made this figure or why. There are actually many hypotheses regarding their origin; some believe it is related to the Nazca Lines, which are located about 120 kilometers south, others attribute its construction to ancient pirates, who reportedly made it a point of reference to guide them, due to the dense fog area. Our captain will stop in front of the figure and our local guide will explain about it.
Then we continue towards the Ballestas Islands. Once we got to the islands, visitors can enjoy a breathtaking marine scenery full of birds and sea lions. Then we will visit boat around the islands, passing caves, rock formations and appreciate many other aquatic species. Due to its semi-tropical location it makes a bit warm, so we recommend bringing sunscreen and a hat to protect from sunlight. Once you have visited all the islands with our yacht dock we will return to Chaco.
